Right now, the Earth’s natural resources are depleting at a rapid and alarming rate. At the same time, landfills are filled with heap after heap of bottles and cans that could be put to a much better use., an estimated 258 million tons of waste was generated during 2014 in the United States alone. Of that 258 million, an estimated 89 millions tons of it was recycled somehow. The number of 89 million can be raised even more, and everyone at FHS – teachers included- can do their part to raise it by joining Recycling Club.

Recycling Club is one of the largest clubs in the school, and with good reason. Not only are you driven to join by the fact that you’re providing a better future for the Earth bottle by bottle, but you also receive service hours, alongside new friends. The club meets every Wednesday after school, and is hosted by Mrs. Woodley.

These meetings will usually last from 4 PM to 5 PM at the latest, and each meeting guarantees you one service hour. Service hours are very important and useful whenever it comes to wanting to make it into National Honors Society, or whenever applying for college.

Not only is it good for the Earth and its future to have you help with sorting and tossing bottles and cans, but it is also great for your social life to meet and make friends with those in the club. Everyone you meet is extremely charismatic and accepting of you, no matter who you are.

All in all, Recycling Club is a great group to be a part of through high school. Whether you’re trying to find service hours for National Honors Society, trying to make some new friends, or just feeling the desire to help clean the Earth – Recycling club is the best place to fill all of these needs.
